Lori Tremblay: Volunteer Profile

Our volunteers are second to none in Ottawa. We want to share some of their stories and learn more about what gives them their energy and motivation. Featured today is Lori Tremblay. Lori is currently a driver for two of our artist/educators, taking them to morning and afternoon schools during RBC Bluesfest Blues in the Schools. Below is a bit about Lori, written by Lori!

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had strong passions for music, animals and trees. Contributing time to music festivals is the favourite in my world of volunteering.  I have been doing this for over 30 yrs and it always makes me feel grateful. Being military, my family has moved into isolated communities and at these postings people would often form groups to improve the delivery of arts, culture, sports, youth activities, innovations etc… Gatherings were formed by many different life experiences and yet we all have at least one thing in common, our willingness to give our time to help others.  When it all comes together, and sometimes even when it doesn’t this process leaves you with a feeling of excitement and appreciation for the shared wisdom and accomplishments. It was during these special events that volunteering taught me how to be in this world. Now posted to Ottawa, it was natural to approach RBC Bluesfest for volunteering as they have a tremendous volunteer reputation. Together with another partner we helped to create the Poster Gallery venue onsite at the festival. This was an extremely rewarding venture as all the sales revenue went to RBC Bluesfest Blues in the Schools (BITS) programming. I got to learn more about BITS and listened to their live sets on stage.  Later on, I got a call to volunteer for the program and I was happy to have the opportunity. I was looking forward to a dynamic interaction between students and music, because to me this is a significant part of BITS. It was enjoyable to see simple smiles, inspiration, and awareness of yet another way to make music. Learning about electronic music and the artists behind it is interesting for the students and the teachers and for the volunteer too!. The show is fun and effective and I look forward to next year. My deepest thanks to RBC Bluesfest and Blues in the Schools. I am happy to be among you all and cherish your support and generosity.

Regards,
