Green Team Raises over $16,000 for Local Charities
RBC Bluesfest welcomes over 3000 volunteers each year to participate in many festival initiatives, one of which is our award winning greening initiatives. Our Green Team is a group of over 350 volunteers, with around 65% of them returning each year. They are a dedicated group with an immense amount of team spirit and pride.
For the 3rd year, the Green Team undertook a creative fundraising initiative which raised a total of over $16,400 to be split among six local charities. Green team area leader John Currie and his assistant Renee Morin led their team through the challenge of collecting, crushing and counting the beverage cans that are recycled at the festival and returned them for cash. The team then selected by vote, six local charities to receive the funds on behalf of the RBC Bluesfest Green Team.
The six charities for 2016 are:
RBC Bluesfest Blues in the Schools
Maycourt Hospice (Hospice Care Ottawa)
The Ottawa Rotary Home
Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue
The Shepherds of Good Hope
Somerset West Community Health Centre
