CityFolk Slam: A Spoken Word Event
Coming to CityFolk this fall, in partnership with Urban Legends Poetry Collective and House of Paint, the CityFolk Slam is a go! This will be a full fledged poetry slam featuring top finalists from slam events at Urban Legends and the House of Paint’s long standing event, the OG500. Qualified participants will bring their best poetry and slam ideas to CityFolk for a chance to win $1000.00.

Top Finalists from the House of Paint will be chosen from the popular OG500, happening this year at the NAC on Aug 29. Head out to the event and watch some amazing artists perform for the $500 pot, and bragging rights of course! Keep up with events at House of Paint here… https://houseofpaint.ca/
Our event will be in two parts, with the first being an elimination round judged by audience members, and the top 5 moving forward to a head-to-head final round!
CityFolk is committed to creating opportunities for youth to get involved in music and art. We have been offering spoken word poetry programs as well as songwriting in high school and community centres such as the Boys and Girls Club, the John Howard Society, and St Pauls High School, working with award winning local spoken word artists and songwriters. The goal of the programs is to have students perform their finished work in their community and then ultimately on a stage at CityFolk Festival.
