From Volunteer to Stage Manager
After 20 years of volunteering at RBC Bluesfest, Fiona Robertson has agreed to take on a new challenge; the job of Stage Manager at the Barney Danson Theatre.
Fiona started out volunteering at the festival in hospitality but after a couple of years moved to the Stage Crew. She enjoyed the physical side of volunteering as well as the comradery of working with a lot of the same people year after year.
Over the years she has done a lot of different work. From the basic moving of artist’s equipment from their vehicles to the stage, to helping build stage set ups, to wrangling gumbo pots and even making sure the River Stage production office ran efficiently. “The work always gave me a feeling of doing something.” “Over the years I got to work with several different Stage Mangers and learn from them.”
As is the case with many of our volunteers, Fiona is quite humble about the whole thing. “I’m just happy to get out there and help out”.
Our volunteers are second to none and Fiona’s story is just one example of how the festival works day in and day out. Congratulations on the new position and all the best from everyone at the festival!
